An effective AI strategy starts with the business strategy, not the technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To develop an effective AI strategy requires more than identifying and prioritising individual use cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many organisations take the approach of looking at individual use cases, however this approach risks delivering isolated improvements rather than a meaningful transformation, even worse many organisations are allowing business units to use AI in an uncoordinated way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The real opportunity lies in a coordinated AI strategy that directly supports the organisations overarching business objectives.  They start implementing and using AI before establishing what is actually needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responsibility is handed over to IT teams, who in most cases are disconnected from the strategic priorities of the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most successful AI strategies start with the business strategy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key question you should answer is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat are we trying to achieve as a business, and how can we leverage the opportunities AI open up for us to deliver genuine value\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steps I recommend are;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Define the business objectives<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Identify strategic challenges (what outcomes can AI support)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Assess AI opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Prioritise collaboratively (bring business, IT, Data, Risk and Security leaders together)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Establish governance (Mandates, accountabilities, decision making etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Track outcomes (business impact, NOT<\/strong> number of AI solutions deployed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Scale strategically<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
